I am very excited to be the computer teacher for grades K-8 at St. Veronica School. The world of computing is always changing, and the children bring their own variety of experiences with them making my job one where every day has new challenges and new achievements. I often learn from the students as they learn from me. This is truly a class where exchanging knowledge is a major part of our learning. This is my 31st year at St. Veronica. Before teaching computers, I taught both second and then first grades at St. Veronica. I earned my BS in Education from the University of Cincinnati and my Master of Education degree with a Reading Endorsement for grades K-12 from Xavier University. I love learning and have expanded this beyond the classroom to include learning to quilt, learning to square dance and line dance and learning to ride my Harley motorcycle. My husband also rides and we have enjoyed several long trips and riding the many state highways in the counties near Cincinnati. We also enjoy traveling to places with great museums and architecture which for me is another way to satisfy my desire to learn while having a great time. My husband and I have 3 grown children who are married and have blessed us with 7 amazing grandchildren.
Welcome to our technology center
St. Veronica follows the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Technology Standards to provide a program that promotes growth in computer skills while emphasizing ethical and moral use of technology.
St. Veronica students in grades K-8 develop their knowledge and computer skills with weekly visits to the school's computer lab. Mrs. Vontsolos, St. Veronica's Media Specialist, introduces and develops keyboarding, word processing, and Internet skills at all grade levels. In addition students in various grades learn skills that enhance their classroom curriculum. These skills include critical thinking, logical thinking, math, reading, science, social studies, and creative writing development. As our students progress they also develop skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word.
Technology is also integrated into each classroom and we have a one to one tablet program in grades 6 through 8. Our classrooms have a Smartboard, mounted projector, document camera, and access to laptop carts. St. Veronica School has subscriptions to Renaissance Learning's Accelerated Reader, Early Literacy and Star Reading programs. The school also has a subscription to Discovery Education offering our teachers easy access to 80,000 curricular resources including educational videos, interactive teaching tools, and more and a subscription to More Starfall for the younger students. St. Veronica School uses AscendSMS to communicate with parents and students.
Ascend is a secured communication tool that allows teachers to provide valuable information to parents and students including but not limited to classroom information, test dates, and student grades.
